FROM PRESIDENT CARL DEPOY

As President of The USS The Sullivans Foundation, I am proud to have served on the DD537 during 1962/63 – helping chase the Russians and their missiles out of Cuba – in addition to participating in the search for the submarine USS Thresher when it was lost at sea off the coast of Boston.

My wife Jayne and I have attended every reunion for the last 30 years or so, and hosted the 2015 Reunion in Jacksonville FL. We really enjoy visiting new sights and look forward to helping make our next reunion a great success while meeting with old and new shipmates!

Regards –
R. Carl DePoy: RMC USN (ret)

MOST RECENT NEWS | HONORING OUR TRADITION SET DECADES AGO

OCTOBER (WINNIPEG) – The Sullivans and our Canadian partner – the HMCS Winnipeg – conducted a cross deck visit board search and seizure exercise. The team from the Winnipeg tactically moved through our ship expertly clearing spaces and keeping control of our crew.

Our Sailors had the opportunity to trade ship swag at the conclusion of the exercise. If that’s not diplomatic relations, I don’t know what is!“ The crew is excited to visit the U.S. Homeland territory,” said Cmdr. David Burkett, Commanding Officer, “and it is an important opportunity for the ship to resupply at this key regional supply hub.”

The visit is The Sullivans’ fourth port visit since deploying from her homeport of Mayport, Florida on April 19th. The Sullivans crew had the opportunity to conduct routine maintenance and repairs, and to experience the local sights of Guam. Marine Attack Squadron 211 conducts a replenishment-at-sea with HMS Queen Elizabeth, RFA Tidespring, and Royal Netherlands HNLMS Evertsen in the South China Sea, July 29, 2021.

VMFA-211 is attached to the UK CSG 21, a UK-led international strike group including support from the USS The Sullivans.
